Presidential election preview
2020 election set to begin Tuesday
November 2, 2020
After a long wait, the 2020 Presidential Election is finally here. With social and economic unrest going on all around the country, it is safe to say that the upcoming election is going to be critical.
With the electoral college being a huge factor in who will be in the white house this November, states with the highest population count such as California, New York, Texas, and Florida will be key to either candidate’s success. If they win those big states, it provides a lot of backbone as opposed to winning the little ones.
The democratic party’s nomination is Joe Biden. His campaign has looked to work with the rebuild of the U.S. economy through helping middle-class families and disadvantaged families, many of which are minorities. To begin this journey of recovery Biden has given Americans his idea of taking away from President Trump’s tax cuts in order to raise revenue to begin his ambitions. Biden has also stated that he wants to invest a ton of money into green energy initiatives. If this were to be something that would follow through, Biden has suggested that all of America’s electricity needs to start coming from carbon-free sources by 2035.
On the other side of things, President Trump, running for his second term, has made it known that his main goal is to revive the economy as it has been hit heavy by the COVID-19 pandemic. To do this, Trump wants to create as many as ten million new jobs that will benefit a lot of small businesses as well as the top ones. In regards to law enforcement, the president plans to increase police funding as well as hire more law enforcement officers. This also comes with an increasing penalty for assaulting or attempting to assault the police.
Although the two candidates have many hopes and goals for the status of their country, when it is all said and done, only one can have their plans executed. This election, as opposed to others, has had countless advertisements and informative pieces that emphasize the importance of everyone’s vote. COVID-19 has made an impact on ways people around the U.S. can cast their vote. Many people still feel skeptical about going out to the polls, so it has been made an option to mail-in your vote also. Taking the opportunity to be invested in the future of the United States is something nobody should be ashamed about.
The stage is set. In just a couple of days we may see a new face sitting in the oval office or a familiar one.
