The maintenance staff will begin replacing several of the outdated, ceramic water fountains this weekend for something more modern, stainless steel and green.

“We see a lot of the students here walking around with water bottles in their hands, but the current fountains don’t make filling [their bottles] up very easy,” Maintenance Director Robert Schuchmann said. “These stations are tailored to their needs.”

Not all water fountains will be renovated, however. Those that will be are located on the first floor by the weight room, second floor by the counseling office and third floor by the elevator.

The water bottle fillers feature a battery powered Green Ticker, which is able to track the quantity of bottles saved from waste. That number is displayed in the upper right corner of the dispenser.

“It’s pretty cool that we will be able to look up and actually see the difference that we are making,” junior Brendan Higgins said. “It’s one of those things that make the school seem more environmentally friendly.”
