Starting this year, the counseling department will meet with students twice a semester in small groups during study halls to improve relationships.
“This would be a good way for us to just inform guys we’re more than just talking about your feelings and all that,” Personal and Academic Counselor Liz Vegovisch said. “We’re not just focusing on just the mental health aspect, but also preparing guys for their career after school.”
Small groups will discuss different social and emotional topics varying with each grade level. Freshman will focus on digital citizenship in their small groups, while sophomores and juniors will focus on stress management. Seniors will focus on life skills to transition into life after high school.
Mrs. Vegovisch wants to make sure all students feel comfortable with their counselor.
“No matter what part of the alphabet you fall under we’re here to support,” Mrs. Vegovisch said. “I’d much rather have a student go to somebody who they feel more comfortable with than not come to me.”
