The running of the Spartans for the freshman will take place this Friday night before the home soccer game vs O’Fallon.
“This is like the last welcome for the freshmen,” Running of the Spartans director Adam Boehm said. “It’s like the paint initiates them into the student body.”
The running of the Spartans is a tradition that involves the new freshman class to paint themselves all maroon and run a lap around the track before the first home Friday night game of the school year.
“It was a fun experience and a good memory,” sophomore Calvin Sztukowski said. “I definitely recommend freshmen to attend.”
Freshmen attending are expected to meet in the lobby at 5:20 for a complimentary dinner in the cafe at 5:30. Students will be painted at 6:00 and run into the stadium at 6:15 before the game kicks off at 7pm..
“Try and organize your carpool to get your belongings before you paint,” Boehm said. “You should plan on staying for the entire game.”
This will be the first ever annual running of the spartans to take place at a soccer game, as it has taken place at a Friday night football game in all years prior.
“It’s a unique experience that they get to have with their whole class,” sports and spirit director Alexander Hall said. “There’s something energizing about the whole experience of painting up, and then everybody being together.”
