Men of the Year 2022
Each year the faculty and students vote on 12 students who represent and embody De Smet’s ideals, they are named Men of the Year. The men and their first thoughts of being honored are below.
Nick Abel
“I am truly honored to be recognized by my classmates and faculty. I have loved every second spent at De Smet and wouldn’t trade the opportunities I’ve been granted here for anything.”
Christopher Beason
“It feels great to be a Man of the Year. It is awesome to have four years of high school to be finished with a great honor. I am so happy to be recognized for my hard work for everything that I am involved in.”
Jacob Fahland
“Being named a Man of the Year is a great honor and a big achievement for me. I have looked up to the past Men of the Year and it gives me great pride to now be considered one of these seniors.”
Kyle Granquist
“It’s an honor to be selected as one of the Men of the Year. I’ve always looked up to the people selected in the years before me, so to receive the same award is truly special.”
Cole Grothoff
“I feel very honored to receive Men of the Year, and it’s a privilege to be selected along with these great men. I’m very thankful for all my classmates and experiences De Smet has given me.”
Jesse Hahs
“I’m very proud of being a Man of the Year. I’d seen what the Men of the Year in previous years were like, and I have tried to model myself after them.”
Tommy Hashbarger
“The previous Men of the Year were people I really looked up to, and it’s affirming that I am acknowledged among them. In many ways, anyone can be a Man of the Year, named and unnamed.”
Bryce Pattison
“I was honored to receive this award voted on by my classmates and teachers. I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead at De Smet and hope to continue this leadership in the future.”
Alex Rodriguez
“It was a special moment having my classmates and teachers select me. That the loud kid who shouts ‘Good Morning Spartans’ made an impact to the community here at De Smet.”
Brady Schmidt
“It is such an honor to be recognized as a Man of the year and to be put in the same category as the other eleven guys. I’m just thankful for everyone at De Smet who helped me become who I am today.”
TJ Woodley
“It feels great to know that I have made an impact on others and that all the things I do, do not go unnoticed. It also encourages me to continue to try and make a difference.”
Lewis Worthy
“My mother told me,”Arrive, Survive, Thrive.” I can confidently say that I have arrived, I have survived, and I have thrived. Worthy Leader out!”
