The creators of the worldwide sensation video game Fortnite left fans hanging with a blackhole that pulled the entire game away for two days. Little did fans know, Epic Games had something big in store for the game that would completely change the way it has been played.

Fortnite Chapter 2 released to players on Oct. 15 with major changes to the game. Changes included a new map, unvaulted & new guns, and new points of interest. The beginning of this new chapter in Fortnite marks the beginning of what could be another solid 10 seasons just like in Chapter 1.

The updated map in the game has new points of interest and rearranged places that were on the previous map. New places on the map include Frenzy Farm, Craggy Cliffs, Steamy Stacks, Misty Meadows, Slurpy Swamp, Lazy Lake, Sweaty Sands, Dirty Docks, Weeping Woods, and Holly Hedges. Returning places from Chapter 1 include only Pleasant Park, Retail Row, and Salty Springs. These new points of interest and an almost entirely new map make for fresh and new gameplay to keep players coming back to play more.

The choices of weapons changed dramatically as Epic Games released new guns and even brought back old ones. Some of these guns included a brand new burst rifle, which in my opinion is the best assault rifle in the game. They also brought back an SMG that was vaulted. They also changed the variants for a lot of guns. One of them being the RPG that they made a green variant for. They have made it so it is less common to find epic and legendary variants which helped the game dramatically. In Chapter 1, it was way too easy to find epic and legendary guns and this made it so when you found these legendary guns it wasn’t as exciting. Now in Chapter 2, it is very exciting to see an epic or legendary gun come out of a chest. Another thing they added with the weapons were the ability to craft and upgrade your weapons variants with materials you have. This is similar to the vending machines is season one.

Fortnite Chapter two brought a lot of new water features. They added a brand new swimming mechanic where you can actually swim instead of just walking very slowly through water. Boats were also added. Boats are extremely fast and you can shoot missiles from them. Because boats are so fast it makes for a great way of getting to the next zone as fast as possible. However, when you are driving a boat it is extremely easy to get shot. Your player is sticking out of it like a sore thumb. The last water update made in Chapter 2 was the ability to pick up a fishing rod and fish. You can get all sorts of loot from fishing ranging from ammo, guns, and even fish that you can eat and replenish your shield and health. These water mechanics are great for the game because it makes players actually want to go by the water. Before they added these mechanics, people would try as hard as possible to stay out of the water due to the slow moving speed that players got when trying to run in it.

Overall, Fortnite Chapter 2 is a major success. Their goal was to bring in a lot of old players who stopped playing because they changed the game too much. They did exactly that because once players heard about Fortnite Chapter 2, they were intrigued by it and wanted to play. Overall, Chapter 2 is a 4.5 out of 5. They changed the game up enough to where it is fun for the players getting back into it and for the players who never left.
