Grades Do Not Equal Intelligence
February 10, 2016
Colleges should put less emphasis on test scores and GPAs and instead focus on the individuality and creativity of its applicants. Giving millions of students the same test and then using its results as a measure of intelligence is unfair. This system not only discourages creativity it affects the self esteem of too many young people today. Below are four reasons why grades do not determine intelligence
There are almost 200 colleges and universities in the United States that do not require applications to submit standardized test scores. This trend needs to spread to more colleges because “smart” people come a dime a dozen, creative students are hard to come by.

The reason these standardized tests are used is that they have historically shown to be the best predictor of university/college success. Now universities will look for other factors along with standardized tests that they have found to be contributing factors for success. There has to be a way to compare students from different schools, and grades are not the way to do it due variances in curriculum quality, difficulty, etc. from school to school. And the way to do that is a standardized test.

At last, it’s about time somebody talked about this. I have fairly modest grades, but I do not think they reflect on how smart I really am.
