Engineering Club Announces Contest

The Engineering Club will be having their first Toothpick Bridge Contest beginning Nov. 6. After a kickoff meeting, today during activity period teams have until Dec. 3 to submit a design. The designs will be judged by the competition creators and senior club officers: Joe Peetz, Paul Fuchs, Sean Joplin, and Matt Carroll. The team with the most creative design gets Chic Fil-A gift cards. Official contest rules are below.
Official Toothpick Bridge Building Contest Rules:
- Teams can have 1 to 3 members. All members must be students!
- Materials for bridge construction will be standard round toothpicks and Elmer’s glue (teams must use provided materials only)
- Bridge must span a gap of 60 cm. Actual bridge length will be longer.
- Bridge height must be less than 30 cm (lowest point to highest point).
- Bridge width must be a minimum of 10 cm.
- We will use an 8.5 cm wide cart carrying weight and roll it across the bridge to simulate load. A thin cardboard surface will be added for the cart to roll smoothly.
