New weight room opens
August 31, 2015
The brand new state-of-the-art weight room with over $100,000 worth of new equipment opened today. Students must attend an orientation before using the equipment.
“A lot of generous people donated a significant amount of money to make that look good,” weight room supervisor Patrick Fogarty said. “So we wanted to make sure everyone knows how to take care of the material so that it lasts and looks good. Also, it is new equipment to the school so in attention to looking nice that everyone knows how to use it, so that we can maximize the benefit.”
The updates to the weight room were to modernize the space and make it more functional.
“The new facility is far safer and efficient and should add some desire by future students to attend De Smet Jesuit High School,” head football coach Patrick Mahoney said. “We have a state of the art facility and we want it taken care of.”

The weight room includes six lifting stations, four floor stations and other equipment off to the sides with a large open area in the middle.
“That big open space in the middle now is purposeful we are going to be able to use that space for plyometric workouts,” Fogarty said. “Not just weight training but athletic training and that’s purposeful.”
