Class of ’23 College Sports Commitments
Each year, students from De Smet commit to various colleges to pursue their sports career at a higher level. The men are recognized below.
Football – EJ BYAS – Hampton University
"I am proud to say that next year I will be taking my skills to Hampton University. I committed there because I believe both the academic and athletic programs are great, and it is a great fit for me."
Football – KESHAWN FORD – Northwest Missouri State
"Next year, I will be attending Northwest Missouri State. I am excited to be continuing my athletic career there where I can properly demonstrate my skills."
Football – ALLEN WILLIS – Washington University
"I am excited to be continuing my education and athletic career at Washington University. I am looking forward to attending a school with such a prestigious academic program."
Football – CHRIS COTTON – Central State University
"I am proud to announce I am committed to Central State University. I will be continuing my athletic and academic career there and think it will be a perfect fit for me."
Lacrosse – DREW WHITAKER – Rockhurst
“I am committed to Rockhurst for Lacrosse. I am super excited to be continuing my lacrosse journey there. It is a great competitive team with a great coach that I think will be very fun to play with.”
Baseball – LUKE BURNS – William Jewell
"I committed to William Jewell for baseball. I liked the area and the program has a history of success. I also went on a visit while I was deciding on which college I wanted to attend and loved it. I got to meet the players and coaches and realized it is where I wanted to spend my next four years."
Baseball – SAM CARDWELL – Maryville University
“I committed [to Maryville] because of the belief I have in the program that the coaches will get me to the next level. Their academic success in the physical therapy and chiropractic fields was another big reason I committed their because I really want to become a physical therapist/chiropractor.”
Baseball – JOSH CUNNINGHAM – Saint Louis University
"I am committed to SLU to continue playing baseball. I love the sport and am happy to be playing for a great team where I can demonstrate my skills, while still being able to work on my academics."
