With conciseness and consistency, producer Metro Boomin continues to rise through the ranks in the music industry. On September 16, Metro released an album announcement on Youtube which quickly gained significant attention across the music industry.
After a long-awaited time, the St. Louis native released the album on December 4, featuring mainstream artists like; Future, Travis Scott, Don Toliver, Young Thug, 21 Savage, and more. With Metro Boomin working consistently with 21 Savage, their chemistry was unmatched by any artist on this album. This LP’s focus was Metro Boomin saving Metropolis, the storyline was solid and could even contest Drake and 21 Savage’s ‘Her Loss’ album for the 2022 album of the year.
Heroes and Villains gives a fast-paced-retro rapping style melody. The album begins with the song ‘On Time’ which starts with a slow and beautiful introduction explaining how the villains should begin to start running, however, like every Metro Boomin album, a beat change is necessary for the mix.
With the same beat transitioning into the next song ‘Superhero,’ it is clear that Metro Boomin’s ability to transition and switch beats is to be revered. It really distinguishes him into a class of one amongst his producer-peers.
These beat switches are consistent in a majority of the songs on the album, one being ‘Umbrella.’ With the chemistry that 21 Savage and Metro Boomin continue to hold, they have done it again releasing a hit, catchy, and beautiful song.
Throughout the song 21 Savage claims that he is not to be messed with or he and his friends will not be looking at them with a good attitude. 21 Savage’s strong and confident attitude really shapes the way he raps.
Each and every song on the album has fit the right artist for each beat Metro made. However, with every great album there will always be some songs that flunk.
‘Creepin’ featuring Chris Brown was not able to fit the mood of the album, in fact it felt like Chris Brown was trying to make the music his own. The only thing good in the song is 21 Savage’s attempt at trying to save the song from a soft, slow, uninvolved song.
It’s hard to pick which is the best song on this album, as the whole thing is a masterpiece. ‘Walk em Down’ and ‘Superhero’ high altitude mood which really makes you feel the whole story of which Metro Boomin is trying to tell us.

Overall Rating: 9/10
